The Kingston Wranglers kicked off their USPHL Premier campaign with a challenging road game against Universel Sherbrooke, suffering a 7-1 defeat in their debut. The game was a tough test for the Wranglers, who were heavily outshot, 77-26, as Sherbrooke controlled much of the pace and play. Despite the final scoreline, Kingston’s goaltender Aristdis Panoskaltsis put on a remarkable performance, turning aside 70 of 77 shots. His effort between the pipes kept the Wranglers in the contest longer than the score might suggest, and he should be commended for his stellar night.
Offensively, Kingston found it hard to generate consistent pressure, but there was a bright spot as Yehor Chyzhevskyi netted the team’s lone goal, his first of the season. The goal was set up by David Duggan and Carson Daniels, giving the Wranglers a brief spark.
As the Wranglers regroup, they will be looking to rebound quickly. Their next chance comes tomorrow night in their Inaugural Home Opener at Cataraqui Arena, where they will face Universel College Gatineau. Wranglers fans are sure to pack the stands as the team seeks to turn things around with the home crowd behind them. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. EST, and the Wranglers will be eager to put on a stronger showing on home ice.
